   Actually, the Middle East was originally a Jewish region, then Roman (pagan and eventually Christian), then Byzantine (Christian), then Persian, then Byzantine again, then finally Islamic. I don't have any use for religion, but if people want to play the "who was here first" game, Muslims came last. And yes, Muslims spread from Saudi Arabia and conquered Jerusalem when it was a Christian city. They had/have no more of a claim to Jerusalem than the Europeans did/do.

As you know the Quran was sent to the Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W) through revelations from God and he would write them down or have one of his companions do it.     Irish0583 - I agree with you, My point was aimed more at Muslims who still see themselves as blameless victims of the Crusades, which is why that word still carries such a stigma in the Arab world. They ignore the fact that the Crusades were a response to Jihad, and justify those conquests as "Allah's will". As you say, they need to grow up and face their own brutality like Christians have (for the most part). And historically speaking, Jews have usually been rather liberal, not just recently

    Okay, the point is not to debate the motivations behind the Crusades, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to try to explain one of the complex and contentious times in human history in a 500 character posting. The point is, as you noted, that the Crusades were savage, brutal, genocidal, etc., but that Christians, for the most part, have calmed down and found a way to reconcile their faith with liberal ideals (as have Jews). Now it is Muslims' turn to acheive the same thing.

Say what you will about the sinister motivations that may have been behind the war in Iraq, the intelligence of our current president, or a host of other blunders that the U.S. has made in the Middle East, but you cannot honestly compare the war in Iraq to the Holy Wars that were launched by religous fanatics to reclaim the Holy Land.
